New Deans Named for Two Colleges

Provost Lawrence Frank has announced the appointment of Amy Hietapelto as dean of the College of Business and Management and Wamucii Njogu as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.


Amy Hietapelto, College of Business and Management
Amy Hietapelto assumed the post of dean of the College of Business and Management on July 1. She previously served the NEIU College of Business and Management as a faculty member, associate dean and acting dean. Prior to her positions at NEIU, she taught at Clarkson College in New York and at Michigan Technological University.

Hietapelto's research interests include pedagogical/curricular issues in management education, organizational change management, teamwork, diversity and the legal implication of college/university policies and practices. She holds a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Minnesota and has published numerous articles in refereed journals.

As dean, Hietapelto will lead the efforts of the College of Business and Management to earn accreditation from the Association to Advance Colleges and Schools of Business International.


Wamucci Njogu, College of Arts and Sciences
Wamucii Njogu has been appointed dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, effective August 1. Njogu has served the University as a faculty member, program coordinator, chair of the sociology department, and, most recently, as associate provost. She previously worked as a research associate for the American Bar Foundation, as a consultant to the Population Council and the United Nations Population Division, and as a research officer for the African Medical and Research Foundation.

Njogu has been the recipient of numerous grants, and her work has been published in textbooks and refereed journals. She earned a Ph.D. in sociology with a specialization in demography and a minor in agricultural economics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.
