On Sunday, September 27, NEIU hosted Home Runs for Heroes, a 16-inch softball game at Thillens Stadium to benefit the Tom Dalof Heroes Fund at NEIU. An NEIU team, managed by College of Business and Management (COBM) Dean Amy Hietapelto, fell by one point to the Dalof Sluggers of Huntley, Illinois.

The event raised more than $9,000 for the Tom Dalof Heroes Fund and to name a room in the new COBM building in Dalof's memory. Dalof was a student in the College of Business and Management who was killed in a hit and run incident as he was rescuing a woman who was under attack last year.
