No Excuses University
Students in the classroom of Mary Leson (B.A. '04, elementary education, and currently enrolled in the M.A. program in reading) at Kenyon Woods Middle School in South Elgin sported NEIU t-shirts for an event as part of the school's participation in the No Excuses University program. The No Excuses University program encompasses a variety of systems, strategies and methods that promote college readiness throughout a school. It is a comprehensive endeavor that involves the participation of students, staff and parents who seek a brighter future for students. No Excuses University logos, college banners and thematic signs are strategically placed throughout the school to promote symbolism. And while a variety of visuals are seen outside classrooms, an abundance of thematic learning is taking place inside the classroom.
