Driving for Student Scholarships
Golfers at the 37th annual Chuck Kane Memorial Golf Outing managed to dodge nearby rain clouds as they took to the greens at the Highland Park Country Club on August 17. This annual golf outing has been held since 1972 in memory of the late Chuck Kane, who served as NEIU's first athletic director and golf coach. The monies raised from this event support student scholarships.
Two awards were presented to longtime faculty members at a dinner held after the golf tournament. Dan Creely, professor emeritus, health, physical education, recreation and athletics, received the inaugural Chuck Kane Educational Leadership Award in recognition of his unwavering and dedicated leadership, mentorship and friendship to the members of the NEIU community, and Joan Leafman, professor, health, physical education, recreation and athletics, was recognized for her many years of loyal service to the Chuck Kane Golf Outing, carrying on Coach Kane's legacy of serving and educating students.
