Cafe
The Ensemble Espanol and its artistic director Libby Komaiko, professor, dance, were featured in a two-page spread in the September/October issue of Cafe magazine. The article discussed a brief history of the Ensemble as well as the group's focus on flamenco dance.

Smart Business
NEIU President Sharon Hahs was featured in a Q&A published in the September issue of Smart Business magazine. Hahs discussed her leadership style and the importance of integrity and communication to her effectiveness.

Chicago Sun-Times
A Chicago Sun-Times column by Mary Mitchell on September 13 reported that Conrad Worrill, professor, inner city studies education, and director, Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies, was honored by NBA all-star Dwyane Wade's foundation. Worrill was recognized for his ongoing efforts to revitalize track and field in an effort to engage young black males and keep them off the streets.

FinalCall.com
Robert Starks, associate professor, inner city studies education, was quoted in a story about the war in Afghanistan published on FinalCall.com on September 8. Starks said that the war in Afghanistan is losing support from the American people, especially during this time of economic crisis.

Univision
Daniel Lopez, associate dean, academic development, and director, El Centro, and Mario Camacho, freshman, were interviewed for a story that aired on the 10 p.m. newscast on Univision on August 26. The story reported on the options international students have when they are asked to leave the country to attend to an appointment back home during the academic semester. This story was a follow-up to a Univision town hall meeting with a back-to-school theme that was taped at NEIU on August 22. Lopez and Gina Gamboa, senior coordinator of bilingual programs, Chicago Teachers' Center, served on the panel for the town hall meeting discussion.

Extra News
A story published on September 2 in Extra News reported on a back-to-school town hall meeting taped at NEIU for Univision. The story stressed the importance of events like this for Spanish-speaking families because many students rely on their parents to help them make decisions about higher education.

WGN-TV
Leticia Aravena, student, dance, performed on the WGN morning news on August 27. The segment was broadcast to promote the Dance for Life benefit concert, in which members of the Ensemble Espanol danced.

The New York Times
Phyllis LeDosquet, associate professor, special education, was quoted for a New York Times story that was published on August 22. The story reported that many people have replaced exorbitant renovations at home with small, do-it-yourself projects.

WTTW-TV
The "solitary oak" on the NEIU campus near the WTTW studios was featured on the "Ask Geoffrey" segment of WTTW's Chicago Tonight on August 6. This particular type of oak tree, the savanna oak, is able to thrive in both swampy and dry land conditions.

der Kurier  and die Suedwestpresse
Edward Stuart, professor, economics and international/intercultural studies, was interviewed for a story that was published in August in der Kurier, an Austrian national newspaper, and die Suedwestpresse, a German newspaper. Stuart discussed unemployment in the United States and the challenges that long-term unemployed Americans face.

Univision
NEIU students Erika Iniguez and Miguel Loeza were interviewed for a story that was broadcast on the 5 p.m. newscast on Univision on July 30. They talked about the HIV-Hepatitis awareness program for Hispanics at NEIU. This story was broadcast as a preview for a Univision town hall meeting about HIV and AIDS awareness among Hispanics, which also was taped at NEIU on August 1.
